Abstract

The flexible pipe, suitable e.g. for hydraulic brake systems requires only two operations in its production and may be bent at appreciable smaller radii than currently available types. It consists of an extruded polyamide inner tube on which are wound reinforcement webs of ethylene glycol terephthalate or similar plastic. Several such webs may be applied to form a square mesh which is finally covered by an outer protection sleeve by a coating process. The outer sleeve may be a polyurethane elastomer. Previously extruded inner tube passes from the drum through the rapid winding unit which applies the reinforcing webs. It then passes into the coating bath, which contains the elastomer in a mixt. of organic solvents, and through a die formed of multiple hooked wires which scrape off the excess elastomer. Finally it is dried in a vertical chimney and wound on to a receiving drum.
