Abstract

In a rolling element bearing at least one of the components, i.e. the inner or outer races, the rolling elements or the cage, is made of a material contg. carbon in solid form. Pref. the material is a composite including carbon fibre which may be of the kind produced by the steam separation process. The fibre is wound circumferentially in respect of an annular element, e.g. the races or the cage. Solid graphite may also be used. The example shows a needle roller bearing with carbon fibre races and steel needles positioned by a metal cage.
