Abstract
Hydrocarbon binders, e.g. bitumen or tar, and hydraulic binders are applied to acidic aggregates of any particle size by pre-coating the aggregate with a film of cement and water. The amt. of cement used comprises 0.25-3% by wt. of the aggregate according to particle size, and the process is carried out by any means of e.g. mixing or pulverisation. Tests showed good immediate adhesion in the case of fine gravel coated with bitumen for a road surface used by a lot of heavy traffic, and a performance increased by 10% in the case of kerbs of hydraulic concrete.
