Abstract

1477319 Road surfacing SOC CHIMIQUE ROUTIERE ET D'ENTREPRISE GENERALE 28 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 23488/74 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and E1] A road has a coating comprising a layer of 4 to 20 kg/m<SP>2</SP> of a solid grout comprising by weight, 12 to 30% of bitumen based hydrocarbonaceous binder, 20 to 40% filler and 30 to 60% of fine sand of larger average particle size than the filler, in which layer are set wear resistant granules projecting above the layer. The binder is preferably a mixture of 60 to 80% bitumen with 10 to 30% heavy anthracene oil and 2 to 10% of elastomer e.g. butyl or chlorinated rubber, butadiene/styrene block copolymer or ethylene/vinyl copolymers. A melt of the grout is layed down, then precoated or uncoated granules are applied before it sets. Preferably the granules are pre-coated with (optionally filled) bitumen.
