Abstract

An electric battery comprises a metal based negative electrode and a porous positive electrode at least the ion exchanging surface of which is covered with a semi-permeable membrane, pref. made of polyvinyl alcohol, insolubilised by cross-linking. The layer is obtd. by applying a soln. contg. polyvinyl alcohol, a cross-linking agent and an acid cpd. then drying and heating the layer. The provision of the semi-permeable membrane overcomes and prevents possible short circuiting due to electrode contact.
