Abstract

Connector for attaching the end of a cable to an underwater location, comprises (a) a body fixed to the end of the cable on which hook elemens are mounted so as to be mobile between a position adjacent to the location where they are designed to hook on and a position remote from teh location for which tehy are liberated from the location (b) a manipultng device which is mounted so as to slide with respect to the body to bring the hook elements to the adjacent position when the device is displaced from a first to a second position and (c) a release element controlled by the engagement of the connector on the underwater location so as to displace the manipulating device towards the second position so as to fix the hook elements on the location. The device provides a cable connector which automatically engages the underwater hook-on head and can be easily released by a device lowered down the cable when it comes to rest on the connector.
