Abstract
The cylinder controls the brake shoes via a rod and lever all connected to a piston. There are mechanical means for increasing the rod travel when the piston passes a given point. This consists of a mechanical relay for sensing the position of the rod. This relay has a coaxial piston of diaphragm type, acted on by a compression spring and a sleeve which locates in threaded recesses on an enlargement on the rod, which are also specially inclined. The enlarged part of the rod slides in a sleeve. The arrangement takes up play due to shoe wear.
