Abstract
The switching circuit employs a power transistor (3) with the emitter collector path connected in series with one or more inductive windings (1) energised for rotating the rotor of the stepping motor. The inductive winding (1) is connected at one side to the positive terminal of the DC supply and the emitter of the npn transistor (3) connected to the negative terminal of the supply. The transistor (3) has a Zener diode (4) of opposite polarity connected across it, with the inverse diode threshold voltage being greater than the supply voltage, but less than the breakdown voltage of the transistor. The power transistor (3) has its base supplied from the collector of a switching transistor of opposite type and the latter may act as the Zener diode, when a relatively low resistor is connected across the base and the emitter of the power transistor.
