Abstract

Natural tissues are prepd. for transplanting by subjecting the parts of the organs or vessels which, when transplanted and exposed to pressures within the biological range, take up their pristine form, to the action of a curing fluid at a similar pressure within the biological range, so that they readopt their original form; whilst the remaining parts of the tissues are subjected to fixing by a curing fluid at a lower pressure. In its natural condition, the vessel may have a shape identical with or different from the shape given to it. This may be a "U"-form, and during exposure to the fixing fluid, guides such as glass tubes, smaller in diameter may be inserted into the vessel, or the guide may consist of a tube curved to the required shape and having an inside diameter near enough to the outside diameter of the tissue under pressure. Overcomes the problem of shrinkage during curing and subsequent expansion when implanted, the degree of which cannot be anticipated with complete accuracy. Heart valves liable to leakage can be rejected beforehand, and setting without undesirable tension is simplified.
