Abstract
A procedure used to measure the heat transfer coefficient between a fluid such as air and a surface in contact with the fluid consists in measuring the quantity of heat given off by a portion of the surface, and also measuring the temperature of the surface and the fluid. The heat transfer coefficient is then calculated by determining the ratio between the heat given off by the surface and the product of surface area times and the difference between the surface and the fluid temperatures. The procedure also consists of covering the surface in contact with the fluid by an insulating sheet with electrically conductive traces or lines such that the surface is evenly covered, and in determining the power dissipated by the traces when connected to an electric source such that the temperature of each trace may be measured.
