Abstract

A shaft is moved along its axis automatically by a jack comprising a circular membrane with two circular washers permitting attachment to the shaft. Movement is caused by pressurisation of a chamber in a casing. A manually rotatable driving mechanism comprising a tube coaxial with the shaft is locked by screwing to a shaft extension through a hollow shaft which is inside it for automatic control. For manual control the tube is turned with the aid of arms to screw or unscrew the hollow shaft on the thread of the control shaft extension until a slot aligns with a slot in the casing, when a locking arm is inserted. The shaft is then moved by rotation of the tube.
