Abstract

Beer or wine fermenting appts. consists of two chambers with a valved connection for transfer of the liq. from one to the other. One chamber is to contain a charge of filter aid material and yeast supported by a permeable support. The other chamber is for storage of the fermented and filtered liq. and has a valved outlet. Gas pressure regulating valves enable the pressure in the fermenting chamber to be kept higher than that in the storage chamber. Used esp. for small scale domestic appts. Unitary appts. produces a clear beverage carbonated with CO2 at desired pressure. Separate operations in different pieces of appts. are avoided, thus reducing risk of spoilage from excess carbonation, bacterial contamination and the like.
