Abstract

The tool for the extraction of hollow cotter pins is esp. applicable to pins accessible from one side only, and constitutes a hollow split tube with an externally toothed head which is inserted fully into the pin and then withdrawn with the pin using screw-jack. The sprung nature of the split tube allows the head to be contracted during insertion, and its expansion after penetration allows the teeth to lock under the pin. The external dia. of the tube is equal to the internal dia. of the pin and a rod sliding within the tube ensures tube expansion and teeth engagement. The screw-jack mechanism constitutes a threaded tube extension passing through a fixed nut and joined to an operating nut engaged by a spanner.
