Abstract

A pistol type adhesive dispenser has a cylinder which holds a stick of solid adhesive, with a pair of concentric sleeves at the rear containing concentric springs which push the stick forwards to a cooled portion of the barrel, followed by a heated portion, to terminate in the dispensing nozzle. Between the nozzle and the cooled section is a pointed member with the heater located close to it, with the sharp point forced into the stick. This pointed member incorporates a heat sensitive monitoring device which also acts as a plug to prevent discharge of molten adhesive. This monitoring device is incorporated in a heating control system which includes a Wheatstone bridge, a thermocouple, triacs and resistive elements, and more heat is supplied when the adhesive is in the molten state.
