Abstract

PURPOSE:To heat rapidly glow plugs of a glow plug preheating device without a current detecting resistor used for detecting temperature of the glow plugs. CONSTITUTION:The cooling water temperature is detected at the start of preheating glow plugs 7 through 10. At the same time, the voltage of a battery is applied to the glow plugs through an outer resistor 13 and the voltage of a connecting point is detected. Thereby, the temperature of glow plug main bodies is detected so that information of the initial temperature is obtained and the operation time of a relay, which short-circuits the outer resistor 13, is controlled on the basis of the information of battery voltage. Consequently, the glow plugs are heated rapidly without a current detecting resistor.
