Abstract

1,164,446. Coating apparatus, spray producers. VIK SUPPLIES Ltd. 4 Jan., 1967 [7 Oct., 1965], No. 42596/65. Headings B2F and B2L. [Also in Division F4] In melting polymeric thermoplastic material a heater for melting the material is controlled by the pressure of the material on the heater such that when the pressure exceeds a given value the heater is heated to a temperature sufficient to melt the material in contact therewith and the molten material thereby produced is induced to pass away from the heater as soon as it becomes molten. Fig. 1 shows a portable dispenser formed of a tubular housing 10 and having a heater 11 at its outlet end with a nozzle 12 on the outlet side of the heater. A solid rod 13 of hot melt adhesive is placed in the container and is held in contact with the heater 11 by a spring loaded plunger 14 the application force of which is controlled by trigger 21. A spring loaded switch device 18, Fig. 2, is arranged between the housing 10 and the heater 11 such that electric current only flows to heater 11 when the rod 13 exerts sufficient pressure on the heater 11 to overcome the spring 19 to close contacts 20. As the rod 13 melts due to contact with the heater the melt is forced to flow out of the nozzle 12 by the pressure exerted by plunger 14. The heater 11 may be in the form of a rod element bent back and forth (Fig. 3, not shown) and the housing 10 may be of skeleton form.
