Abstract
A workpiece feed system for round tube or bar in a reheating oven has two sets of work carriers supported horizontally by vertical pillars from horizontal beams, in turn supported by independently driven crank arms rotated by eccentric drives, so that they are raised and lowered independently. The beams are also reciprocated independently by rack and pinion drives connected to their ends, so that the workpieces, which are carried in pockets in the surfaces of the work carriers, can be lifted from one carrier and carried foward by the other carrier, as the carriers rise and fall between one another, combined with a forward movement of the receiving carrier at the moment of transfer. The drivers of the two sets of carriers can be varied so that the forward movement is reduced so much, during transfer, that the workpieces are no longer conveyed forwards, but are subjected to a rolling movement only, thus ensuring that they are evenly heated all round for controlled periods.
