Abstract

The continuous casting plant has a set of guide and support rolls located under the mould for changing the direction of the cast billet from a vertical position to a horizontal position, the rolls being located on each side of the billet; each roll or gp. of rolls is mounted on a chassis so the rolls can rapidly be dismantled. A curved conveyor track is located above the guide and support rolls, the curve of the track being parallel with the path of the billet, and a trolley is mounted on the track and fitted with two arms which use hydraulic motors to lift a roll or a pair of rolls out of the path taken by the billet so the rolls can be moved to a repair or storage area. The fully mechanised, powder-operated system is used for the rapid removal and replacement of the guide and support rolls.
