Abstract

A flap or metal tongue is used to tear along lines of weakness to open the top. The tongue (3) is attached to the lower edge (4) of the side (2) of the cap (1). The weak lines (8) extend up the side of the cap and across the top to the opposite side. The tongue extends horizontally outwards, and has its edges turned over (6, 7) so that there is no sharp edge to possibly cause injury. It is also reinforced by stiffening groove (16, 17). There are ridges parallel with the axis of the tongues near to the joint with the cap and extending up the side, and ridges across the width of the tongue near its free end.
