Abstract

The apparatus may be used in motor vehicles which have catalytic exhaust gas afterburners, and it includes a signal processing stage which is connected to the amplifier output and it contains at least one threshold device which is used for tripping an alarm. The differential amplifier input connected to the thermocouple is connected through at least one resistor to a voltage whose value and polarity are such that if the thermocouple circuit is broken, the amplitude of the amplifier output signal exceeds the normal range and operates the threshold switch; the resistance of the resistor lies between 100 KOhm and 10 MOhm.
