Abstract

The air is cooled during its passage through a spiral tube (28) then enters the control device (14) through an opening (32). Oil and water are separated in a cyclone (34). At the bottom of the cyclone chamber is a purge valve (46) controlled by the pressure difference across a membrane (40) attached to a shaft (42). Air leaving the cyclone passes through a filter (50) to a non-return valve (54), a by-pass valve (53), a pressure reducing nozzle (52) and an auxiliary valve (55), these four being in parallel. These components work in conjunction with a humidity sensitive device placed downstream of the main filter (18) to operate the purge valve and to permit a reverse flow of air through the filter when the compressor is stopped, drying the filter, if this is necessary.
