Abstract

A central heating system in which hot water is pumped through radiators, includes a supplementary heat source in the form of a wood fire burning in a grate in the room in which the radiators are located. The bars of the grate itself are formed of hollow tubes through which the hot water is also circulated, being connected by branches in the supply and return lines of the radiators. The grate can consist of horizontal tubes on which the fuel burns, and further vertical tubes forming the back of the grate. In an alternative design, a sloping overhead baffle unit can also be incorporated with these two portions.
