Abstract

The circlip, particularly intended for use in vehicle transmissions is formed from two parallel arms (10, 12) joined by an arc, the free ends of the arms diverging somewhat. The arc and the diverging ends are connected to the central parallel portions by bends so that the plane of the central portion is staggered back from that of the ends and the arc. The outer portions of the arc (20) and the ends (34) are made thinner than the rest of the circlip so as to locate in the groove which positions the circlip. Assembly by circlip pliers is facilitated by the staggering of the central portion and the circlip may be easily stamped out from spring steel.
