Abstract

A thermoplastic (PVC) tubing is lined with a polyurethane resin having good oil and petrol resistance, and may also be sheathed with polyurethane, for abrasion resistance. The boxy may be reinforced with a relatively rigid plastic helix (unplasticized PVC), and/or longitudinal filaments. The polyurethane layers should be 1/20-1/2 the thickness of the PVC wall. The lining prevents the tube from leaching or swelling when conveying oils or petrol. Tubing was made by co-extrusion of a PVC compsn. based on 100 pts. resin + 60 pts. dioctylphthalate and of a commercial polyurethane resin RTM-"Pandex T-5165". The lining is 0.2 mm thick and shrinkage + wt. loss after 10 days contg. petrol are reduced from 10% and 10.25% resp. to 0.0 and 1.2%.
