Abstract
The pile with a variable cross section is used as a member for flexible piling wall and has a constant bore and a variable cross sectional area which ensures that the second moment of area of the cross section varies along the pile length. The pile is flexible and able to withstand bending impact loads produced by ships. Hence the highest second moment of area is arranged at about mid length of the pile. This pile is readily driven into the ground because of its smaller diameter at the ends and hence less soil is rolled away and less energy is absorbed on driving. The pile has a constant bore and variable cross section with individual sections with variable diameters. These simple sections are joined by a shrinking method in order to eliminate expensive rolling processes.
