Abstract

The shutter blanks off the live terminals of a household power socket, preventing, for example, a child depressing the normal shuttering arrangement and inserting a finger or conductor. One form of the design has two female live socket elements (1) situated facing a fixed intermediate shutter (6). An exterior shutter (3) is free to rotate about a centre point (O) such that its access holes (4) intended for the plug pins may move either over or away from those of the first shutter. Springs are attached at one end to the socket mounting plate (3) such that only correct conductor insertion will give coincidence of the shutter apertures.
