Abstract

The system is for use with a pump (4) handling thick non-homogeneous liquid, e.g. sewage, mud etc and delivering via a pipe (8) to a unit of variable or limited output such as a filter (2). Downstream of the pump is a throttle unit (6) restricting the section of the pipe, and controlled by a level detector (1) at the inlet to the filter etc. An orifice of adjustable sections (5) is mounted between pump and throttle unit, returning the surplus liquid to the intake side, agitating and homogenising it in the process, particularly near the pump inlet. The sections of pipe and orifice are such as to allow the pump to keep the filter etc fully supplied, despite the quantity returned to the intake side.
