Abstract

The unit comprises a chassis with two parallel shafts at the base, each carrying a pair of pneumatic-tyred wheels. A crawler track is stretched over the wheels, equipped with external grousers and internal centring lugs. An engine/gearbox assembly is mounted on the chassis and coupled by a belt drive (9, 10, 11) to one or bot pairs of wheels (4). A sprocket, meshing with the track lugs (7) can be mounted between the wheels in a pair and rotate with them. The unit can form the forecarriage of a complete vehicle, slewing about a vertical axis on the latter, and where used in a rowcrop tractor or straddle carrier can pivot on a horizontal axis at the rear of the chassis, the tractor being equipped with a steering wheel.
