Abstract

The cowl reduces noise and increases efficiency, and simply fits over the burner tip, either by pressing, clamping or screwing. The gas outlet end is slightly belled out. There can be annular perforated discs in the cowl body, the diameter of the central hole being roughly the initial diameter of the flame, while those in the discs are much smaller. The discs reduce noise by increasing turbulence, while their heating causes combustion of residual gases and can relight the burner in the event of a brief failure of the gas supply, thus acting as a safety device also.
