Abstract
The rotary engine has a casing, the cross-section of which is formed by two symmetrical trochoidal arcs. The rotor (3) is of triangular cross-section, the sides of the triangle being formed by convex arcs. A sealing segment (5) fits in a longitudinal groove (4) cut in the rotor at each corner of the triangle. To reduce the effects of thermal expansion and so reduce the clearance of the segment (5) in its groove (4), a narrow slot (14) is cut in the rotoro parallel to the groove (4). This slot reduces the heat flow to the groove (4) and may be filled with an insulating material such as a sintered compound of carbon.
