Abstract

A workpiece is mounted ona lathe spindle and a cutting tool is mounted by means of a transverse slide and mobile carriage on the lathe sub-frame. The compensator is designed to measure the deflection of the cantilevering workpiece under the action of the cutter and relay this data back to the control so correction may be applied. The sensor is borne on the transverse slide and bears on a template incorporated on the lathe -sub-frame, its action on this template diminishing in proportion to transverse slide movement and workpiece deflection and the sensor is pref. a differential resolver.
