Abstract

1460248 Beds and frames; milling and drilling machines; electro-erosion EXPERIMENTALNY NI INST METALLOREZHUSCHIKH STANKOV 23 May 1975 [27 May 1974] 22935/75 Headings B3B B3K and B3V [Also in Division C7] A metal working machine tool comprises a base 1 supporting a table on which a workpiece is clamped; a longitudinally extending guide bar 8 supported at its opposite ends by the base 1; a main carriage 10 slidable on the bar 8 by means of a bore 9; first drive means 17 for moving the carriage 10 along the bar 8; a cross-slide mounted for transverse movement on the carriage 10 and including a transverse guide bar 12 slidably received in a bore 11 whose axis is perpendicular to the axis of bore 9, one end of the bar 12 carrying a flange 13 on which is mounted a power head and tool; a cross arm member 15 fixed to the other end of the bar 12 and connected to a second drive means 18 for moving the cross-slide on the main carriage 10, and a copying device for controlling the first and second drive means. A spark erosion machine is described in which the table (3) and workpiece (4) are immersed in a vertically movable bath (5) of processing fluid (Fig. 1, not shown). Alternatively the machine may be an electro-chemical machining apparatus (Fig. 5, not shown), or a milling or drilling machine tool (Figs. 6, 7, not shown). The copying control may comprise a template (33) (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) mounted to move with the flange 13 relative to a reading head (31). To prevent rotation of the carriage 10 and cross-slide about their respective guide bars 8, 12, further guide bars 28, 29 are provided which are engaged by rollers 30 carried respectively by the carriage 10 and cross-slide.
