Abstract

The limit speed is marked on the vehicle speedometer and the light reflected or transmitted by the speedometer needle is monitored by a photoelectric cell adjacent the limit marking, so as to provide an output signal when the needle approaches the latter. This signal is used to release a warning cct. e.g. a flashing light, energised by the vehicle battery. The photoelectric cell responds to the light diffused by the speedometer cct. and its response is sensitive enough for decesive operation of the release of the warning cct. The position of the photoelectric cell may be adjustable relative to the speedometer scale to allow the limit speed defined by its position be varied, and its sensitivity can be regulated to compensate for parasitic light.
