Abstract

This type of magnet is used to position a high speed rotor on a shaft so that at no time does the rotor contact the shaft. An extension at each end of the rotor (1a, 1b) carries one half of the magnet, and the other halves face these across a small air gap (2). Three-equal, rectangular sectioned, pairs of annular grooves (4, 5, 6) are made in the faces, with depths at least twice the air gap. A larger pair of grooves (3) lies between two of these grooves and carries the inductive magnet winding in the outer half of the magnet.
