Abstract

The luff rope on for example a jib consists of a steel rope covered in plastic. The luff rope is fitted with a stainless steel end fixing onto the cable. The end of the fitting is drilled to allow a shackle pin to be used. The shackle at one end of the luff rope is used to connect the rope to the halyard. At the other end the luff rope is shackled to the deck. There is also a second hole in the fitting which is used for stitching the sail to the rope. The end fitting used is stronger than an eye splice.
