Abstract

A photograph (6) of any desired subject is reproduced by the procedure described in the form of a sketch, on drawing paper, to allow colouring or interpretation by the artist. A screen (1) is made from opaque material but has a matrix of transparent patches (3), which may be of various shapes. The screen may be produced photographically or may alternatively be a transparent sheet with a printed network of opaque portions. In a darkroom, an image is projected through the screen on to the artists paper (4) which has been coated with a light sensitive emulsion (5). After development, the image (7) has the appearance of a sketch. The main advantages are ease and cheapness of production.
