Abstract

The end of the motor shaft (1) is provided with a parallel key (3) which engages the keyway (5) in the bore (6) of the coupling (4). The motor end of the coupling is provided with a number of parallel splines whilst the reduction gear end of the coupling has a smooth cylindrical surface which fits with a clearance of about 0.5mm in the bore (9) in the end of the reduction gear shaft (2). The splines (8) of the coupling fit in slots (10) milled in the end of the shaft (2). The clearance between the coupling diameter (7) and the bore (9) permits a degree of mis-alignment of the axes of the motor and reduction gear shafts.
