Sintered bodies are made from ceramic powder by preheat treating or presintering the powder at 700-1100 (900-1000) degrees C by a localised heating process for 15-150(30-60) secs. in a gaseous atmosphere which may be inert, oxidising or reducing according to the nature of the matl. being treated, then forming a shaped body by any normal method, drying and firing. For ferrites, titanates zirconates, garnets, for electronics use e.g. for piezoelectric filters, ferrite pot cures, and for other similar substances. Reduced cost since the desalinated water used in the process can be readily recovered and reused. No other heating devices are heated and cooled, so that energy used in a minimum.
