Abstract
A blowing device for a converter using oxygen refining, the novelty being the use of a combination of tuyeres where each consists of two concentric tubes each tube being fed separately, and where the assembly of tuyeres is divided into at least two distinct groups; each group can be fed with a fluid injected through the core of each tuyere and, at a given moment, the fluid can be replaced by another fluid different to that being supplied through the other group of tuyeres. The device is pref. used for refining iron by blowing oxygen through the tuyeres, where a gas employed to mix the melt can be blown simultaneously through one group of tuyeres, esp. N2, Ar, or CO2. Mfr. of steel in an oxygen converter. Ensures efficient mixing of the melt and the slag, during de-phosphorisation, addn. of other materials, and the amt. and pressure of the gas used for mixing can be controlled independently of the oxygen supply.
