Abstract

Process for preparing 1H-tetrazole-1-acetic acid (I) and its alkali and ammonium salts comprises (a) reacting an alkyl glycine ester hydrochloride with HCONH2 in an org. solvent; (b) dehydrating the N-formyl ester produced in an org. solvent in the presence of a tert. amine; (c) reacting the isocyanoacetic acid ester formed with NH3 in an aq. medium and (d) hydrolysed the alkyl ester of (I). Cpd. (I) is an inter. for sodium cephazolin.
