Abstract

Universal robot or automaton, for handling components etc. in engineering processes, is designed to be able to pass components over obstacles and to provide inherent compensation for out of balance forces, and embodies curved motion, variable energy and compensating inertia. The end of a bar is pinned at two specific points to a horizontal and a vertical slide respectively, motion of hinged points along slides, or variation of distance between hinged points effecting an elliptical motion of the bar end, with a built-in return at the end of the run. Carriages (3, 7) sliding on the horizontal (1) and vertical (2) members of a 'T' frame locate the connections (10, 11) to the bar (8).
