Abstract

A press filter for squeezing pulp comprises several perforated drums which rotate on parallel axes and a closed endless belt which passes round a portion of each drum. Pulp is supplied through individual ducts to each drum from a central duct to be squeezed between the drums and the belt. Fluid from the pulp drains through the perforations into the drums and is discharged into an underlaying trough. The solids are removed upstream from where the belt leaves the drum surface by a pickup knife and a worm conveyor. The squeezed solids are prevented from resuckling fluid squeezed from the pulp as soon as the pressure decreases.
