Abstract

1479318 Apparatus for dewatering slurry ALB KLEIN KG 12 June 1974 [13 June 1973] 26024/74 Heading BID Slurry is dewatered by squeezing between two endless sieve belts 4. 5 which pass firstly between a straight set of rollers 9 and then in an S-like path round rotating drums 1. 2 against which the belts are pressed by rollers 40. Fig. 1 also shows a preliminary gravity filtering on the upper run of belt 4, from which partly dewatered slurry falls at 8 on to belt 5. Rollers 9 are staggered to curve the belts to some extent (not shown) and mounted on spring-loaded plates P. In an alternative construction (Fig. 3 not shown) rollers 9 are mounted on two endless conveyors whose adjacent runs are backed by plates which are spring-urged together to press the belts. The rollers on the two conveyors may differ in size and spacing, and the conveyors may be driven at slightly different speeds. The conveyors may move the belts forward, or the belts may be moved by rotating one or both drums 1, 2 and may in turn move the conveyors. Drums 1, 2 have peripheral walls of perforated or grooved steel or built up of axially oriented tubes (Fig. 2 not shown), which may be perforated and serve to drain filtrate from the drum interiors. Drums may be driven at slightly different speeds. Rollers 40 are pivotally mounted relative to the drumsupporting frames on levers which carry adjustable pins (47), and pins (47) are engaged by a circumferential cable on each drum. The cables are tightened by handwheels or winches to urge the rollers 40 on to the drums, and the individual forces applied by the rollers may be adjusted by adjusting pins (47) to vary the leverage. The belts 4, 5 separate to discharge filter cake at 53, and their return runs via washing stations 56 may be supported by the outer parts of some rollers 40. The flexing of belts 4, 5 caused by changes in direction and differential speeds of supporting members breaks up the filter cake between the belts to expel water pockets. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the initial pressing silage is arranged beneath the drums, and there is no gravity filtering. The apparatus may include a strainer (unspecified) which removes some water from the slurry before the slurry reaches the belts. The belts could pass round more than two drums. Rollers 9 could be vibrated.
