Abstract
Rotary drum furnace, partic. for mfr. of cement, of the type in which a hot chest which is integral and rotates with the drum has a feed throat leading from the chest to the drum. The throat assembly comprises a refractory tube within a bellows expansion sleeve which has one end sealed to the chest aperture surround and the other end sealed to the drum aperture surround, to allow limited, differential longitudinal, thermal expansion of drum and chest, as in parent patent. In this addn., the bellows expansion sleeve comprises two or more bellows disposed in parallel planes. Pref. the sleeve has a bellows near each end and one or more additional bellows between these two. When space considerations permit, the type of expansion sleeve described reduces thermal stressing compared with the original expansion sleeve which comprised only a maximum of two bellows disposed in convergent planes.
