Abstract

The failure indicating circuit is intended primarily for lamps in the braking systems of motor vehicles. In addition to the series-connected resistor(s) the circuit also contains a semiconductor switch connected through one or several semiconductor diodes to the junction point between the lamp(s) and the corresponding resistor. The semiconductor switch has a voltage threshold appreciably higher than the diode(s) forward voltage and it is tripped by a lamp failure from its conducting to blocking state or vice versa. An indicator responds to this change of state and signals the lamp failure. The indicator may contain a transistor amplifier and a signal lamp.
