Abstract

A heat transfer panel is an integral unit combining a flat heat conducting surface (3) which absorbs the heat of the sun's rays and a capillary tube (2) underneath, giving an approximate T section, the tube containing a liquid which is converted by the heat into a vapour. The vapour then flows along the tube and gives up its heat to a correspondingly shaped heat transfer plate (4) condensing as it does so, the liquid being recirculated. Other shapes can be used. The panel cross section is a tube with a horizontal upper and lower wing, or a tube with two wings extending from its mid point, or a tube with four sloping wings. Alternatively, similar shapes are based on a square or rectangular tube.
