Abstract

The solar heating installation is situated on a house roof top (2), and is connected with a heater (3), and hot water tank (4) inside the house. These are normally supplied by a cold water pipe (6), and it is in this pipeline that the solar device is inserted. At the top of the supply pipe is a water tank (7) lying across the roof. This is connected to a number of flat water containing panels (8a 8b). The panels are connected at their two ends to different levels within the tank (7) so that as they heat up water circulates by a thermosyphon effect. The panels are inclined to the south, either by the pitch of the roof, or the use of small support legs (9). A low power heater (80 watts) in the circuit may be switched on when the high temp. falls temporarily below freezing. This maintains a thermosyphon circulation, preventing freezing.
