Abstract

A method of making plastic bags with lateral folds and valves utilises as starting material a flat plastics sheet to which the valve seats are fitted before the sheet is bent over so that its edges overlap to form a tube; while the sheet is still flat, slits are formed in it near to one edge, the valve seats are then placed over these slits with their outer edges stitched to the outer edge of the fold to be formed in the tube later, and are then welded by a seam situated between the transverse or longitudinal weld of the tube and the opening slit itself. Pref., the tube has transverse lines of perforations between successive transverse seams. The entire train of bags are pref. rolled up while still in the form of a tube. By locating the valves not at the folded joint, the superimposition of extra thickness at this joint, which normally results to a conical or distorted rolled up tube, is avoided. Instead, the tube rolls up to a generally cylindrical shape.
