Abstract

A refrigeration chamber particularly for food with an endless conveyor with a chain (20) and chain wheel (25) system to convey the food deposited in suspended cradles along a zig zag path inside the housing (1, 2, 3, 4) from an upper entry point (A) to a discharge point (B) has an extraction fan arrangement (5) at the top to remote accumulated nitrogen from the bottom, and discharge it through nozzles (8, 9, 10, 11) located at each level of the feed path. These levels are formed into compartments by flexible flaps (12, 13, 14, 15) located at the ends. The feed opening (A) has incorporated a swinging member (23) which prevents escape of nitrogen, and the discharge opening (B) has a similar number (231). By replacing the nozzles with heaters, the whole device may be used for warming food. The improved sealing and redistribution system gives improved economy and a more accurate time for each cycle.
