Abstract

The valve described limits the fluid pressure supplied to a receiver, to a pre-determined, adjustable value. The description applies to an air brake system regulator, comprising a body (1) in which slides a piston (19) containing a return spring (22) adjusted externally by a nut (23). When air pressure is applied via a union (2), it is transmitted via the valve seat (24) and chamber (13) to the discharge union (3) to actuate the brake. When the limiting pressure is reached it overcomes the spring pressure and forces the piston (19) downwards, thus pressing the valve seat (24) on to the fixed seal (15). The lower flexible lip (31) of this seal is also pressed against the wall (32) and the air cannot then flow to the discharge duct. When inlet pressure is reduced below the limiting value, air flows back via passages (33, 34) displacing the seal lip from the wall. Finally, the spring returns the piston to its upper position.
